Toyota Australia's stunt driving team – the V6 HiLux Heroes – returns in 2010 after a stellar debut year that saw the team perform in front of more than 2.75 million people.
The highly-skilled team, which includes some of Australia's leading professional drivers, will again pilot slightly modified versions of the 4x2 V6-powered Toyota HiLux – Australia's best-selling ute.
It thrilled crowds thanks to its wide range of stunts, including the daring12-metre ramp-to-ramp jump and two-wheel driving HiLux.
Combined with formation driving, reverse flick turns, high-speed crossovers, drifting and nose-to-nose driving, the V6 HiLux Heroes have become an instant show hit.
Team director Scott Anderson was pleased with how well the Australian public embraced the team in its debut year and promises more amazing stunts in 2010.
"Last year we performed at some of Australia's premiere shows and events and everyone on the team was really excited by the response we received," Anderson said.
"This, coupled with strong support from Toyota Australia, will again give us the opportunity to take the show to the masses in 2010."
Between them, the V6 HiLux Heroes team has more than half-a-century of experience in stunt and rally driving.
Lead driver Jack Monkhouse was especially pleased with the choice of HiLux for the team, saying its work-rate in 2008 more than confirmed its reputation as the unbreakable ute.
"The HiLux is a very compliant and easy vehicle to drive – straight out of the box, they are great fun," Monkhouse said.
"The fact we are still performing in the original five vehicles that we launched the team with in January 2008 demonstrates the quality and unbreakable nature of the Toyota HiLux workhorse."
Toyota Australia's promotions, events and motorsport manager Wayne Gabriel said Toyota was excited to continue its partnership with the V6 HiLux Heroes and to continue entertaining crowds across the country.
"The V6 HiLux Heroes were a breakout success last year and entertained millions of people across the country," Gabriel said.
"Last year the team demonstrated why HiLux has the reputation of being one of the most recognisable workhorses in the country by performing stunts not normally associated with this type of vehicle.
"Toyota recognises and appreciates its strong support in rural Australia, so we are especially pleased to again be showcasing the HiLux's capabilities to Australia's large rural population.
"In 2010, the V6 HiLux Heroes will again take the HiLux to both regional shows and major city fairs. On behalf of Toyota I would like to extend my appreciation for the great work Scott and his team are doing."
